after it drove with Col D[errom] & Jno. to Mt. Pleasant hospital. saw young
Carter, wounded -- doing well --
Enoch S. Carter was a musician in Company B, 25th New Jersey
William M. Carter was a private in Company D
A fascinating possibility for Dr. Gurley would be Dr. Phineas D. Gurley, pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church which Lincoln attended while President. Gurley was with him when he died and preached his funeral sermon in the East Room of the White House
