Several calls -- cars at 2:19 -- arrived in N Haven at
Mrs Wilcoxs -- Pinneo [?] & Gray there -- pleasant visit --
tea at Dr Duttons & spent eveg -- P & G off with Boat

Dr. W. S. Dutton (1814?-1866) was pastor of the Second Congregational Church (North) in New Haven. His home at 113 College street was a known station on the Underground Railroad. (Horatio T. Strother. Underground Railroad in Connecticut.)

Preached twice & addressed S.S. con in Eveg -- cloudy &
looked like rain

fine but little cooler -- Selected Psalms 12:5 for text --
McClellan has again been placed in command of all
forces about Washington -- Pope has gone out West -- Rebels in
force are in Maryland -- & threaten Cincinnati --
I think we have begun again -- de novo -- I hope this time
with more success tea at Mr Hemingways --

Fri [September] 12 [1862]

Walked with Mr. C. Sherman on brook side to Dace Hole --
Drove with Dr. Mason to Hastings Hill & called at the
Hemingways -- tea at Mrs Clarks looked over Grt. Grandfather's
journal -- rain in P.M.

Thurs Sept 11 1862

Read -- Calls -- tea at Mrs. Fuller's -- our old house --
Conducted Eveg. py meetg -- Mrs Lewis there -- talked with her afterwards

Made calls - Mr & Mrs Parsons, Mrs Woodford & Miss
Southmayd
drove up and spent PM & took tea with me -- visited ch. yard.
Inst &c -- brot me bucket of fruit -- pleasant day -- &
pleasant time
